Memory Game

Real playing cards on green felt: turn them over two at a time and find every pair. Two cards are a pair when they share value and color: the ace of hearts with the ace of diamonds, the ace of spades with the ace of clubs. Five levels, from 8 to 24 cards, and three clocks: blitz (3 minutes), rapid (5) and classical (no clock). With a gamepad, it vibrates gently when you get a pair and hard when you miss.

    Controls and rules

    • Gamepad: D-pad or left stick to move the cursor (and choose level and clock); A turns the card over; X uses the 50/50; Y, peek (B cancels it); Start goes back to the menu.
    • Keyboard (click the game first): arrows or WASD to move the cursor; Space or Enter turns the card over; 1 or Q, 50/50; 2 or E, peek; Esc goes back to the menu (or cancels peek). F: full screen.
    • Touchscreen or mouse: tap a card to turn it over, and the buttons on the scoreboard for the jokers.
    • Misses: turning over two cards you had never seen is not a miss; it is one if you had already seen either of them and they are not a pair. Stars (up to three) count misses and jokers; the record for each level and clock is saved in this browser. With twice as many misses as cards, you lose the game. If you reload or close the page, the game carries on where you left it (time away does not count).
    • Jokers: 50/50 (with one card face up, it rules out half of the others, never its pair; once per turn) and peek (look at a face-down card for a moment, without using your turn). They cost 10 seconds in blitz, 20 in rapid and 5 coins in classical.
    • Coins: they add up from game to game, with any clock (in classical they pay for jokers). Each pair gives 2, and every 3 pairs in a row, 5 more; turning over two cards that are not a pair breaks the streak. Losing (on time, on misses or by leaving a started game) costs twice the most you can win at that level: with 8 cards you can win up to 13, so you lose 26. They never go below zero.
